Who Takes Part?

Over 500 participants from across Europe will be travelling to Ireland. Every single athlete will have had a transplant – heart, lung, kidney, liver, pancreas or bone marrow – or be receiving dialysis for kidney failure. Transplant Sport brings everyone together in celebration of a second chance at life, and gives dialysis patients motivation to be as healthy as they can be.

The Big Message

Why are we bringing ETDSC 2020 to Dublin? For over 40 years the Irish Kidney Association has promoted the importance of Organ Donation in Ireland. The simple fact is, Organ Donation saves lives. And we can prove it – the Championships show the life-changing results of receiving an Organ Transplant. The spirit and endurance of the athletes who take part in Transplant Sports is truly inspirational, and we are thrilled to have the chance to bring it back to the Emerald Isle, ten years after we last hosted!

“The Irish Kidney Association proved to be an excellent Games organiser and host in 2010. Since then the Association has developed a lot, and many great Irish athletes have appeared in the transplant championships. I love the spirit of the Irish Team, and I hope that we all will feel this spirit during the week of the coming European Transplant and Dialysis Championships. ”

Judit Berente

President, European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Federation

“Organ Donation Transplant Ireland (ODTI) are delighted to see the European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Championships return to Dublin in August 2020. The Championships are an excellent example of the value of organ donation and the enhanced lives organ recipients go on to live following transplant surgery.”

Professor Jim Egan

Director, Organ Donation & Transplantation Ireland
